The Calicut university have implemented the new choice based credit semester system for its all UG programmes with effect from 2009-10 academic year onwards. Its first batch is passing out now. The overall performance in a degree programme is consolidated in the form of Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA). The CGPA of a student will be used as base for his PG admission and other rating purposes. The B.com degree consists of 31 courses. each course have certain credits according to its weightage in the course. The total credit for B.com degree is 120. Grades are awarded for each course in the examination. In every semester Semester Grade Point Average (SGPA) is calculated which is the overall grade in that semester. similarly at the end of degree programme. Cumulative Grade Point Average is computed, which is the overall performance in the programme and which will be used as a base for his PG admissions and other ranking purposes. CGPA is a 7 pint scale rating ie A+, A, B+, B, C+, C, D. The minimum to pass a degree is C.  CGPA will be separately calculated for common courses, core courses, complementary courses and open courses.
